Question for low nss breeders

#253478 Posted on 2022-02-26 00:50:01

Hiya =D

So, as the title says, this is a question for low nss breeders specifically. Or at least, those who strive to lower the nss of their herds.

I'm curious, which breed(s)/discipline(s) do you breed? Considering expanding my herd and I'm curious what the current breeders are doing.

Regards
Raiyne =)

Only been doing the lowering of nss for a short time so most of my breeds are not that low yet - but I do have one or 2 stars within the herd.  Usually the horses come from the rc and will be trained in the discipline they are best suited to and then go on to breeding.  There are anomalies regarding discipline within the breeds if you decide to look at my herd for potential mates but generally speaking.

driving - gypsies
sj - chinco, dw & trake
racing - teke & tb
western - morgan, qh & paint
endurance - twh

I'm working with dressage Lippis and racing TBs (the other projects are not active at the moment, but they include endurance Arabians, show jumping TBs) - none of my projects have so amazing low NSS, but every generation is a lil' bit lower.

andalusians. there so many 5000+ stat horses but they all have like an upwards of 70-100 NSS, so i’m trying to bring in new blood and encourage low NSS in andalusians.!

I've just recently have come back to the game, but I have High Stat/Low NSS AND High Conformation Andalusian that I show in Dressage.

Breeding for high stats is easy, and it usually comes at the cost of nss and conformation. Breeding for all three in the same horse is an art form that I occasionally have some success at.

All of my horses are at 5000+, most of them have NSS of 60 or less, a few have gotten down to 49, and all have conformation of 98.50 minimum.

I've always bred for low NSS and I try my hardest to eliminate inbreeding, line breeding, and the grey gene from my horses.
I bred a variety of different breeds mainly (takes a breath)...
Racing, Driving and Dressage Shetland Ponies
Driving Gypsy Vanners
Western Quarter Horses
Racing Trakehner
Endurance Paint and Appaloosa
Driving, Racing, Show Jumping, and Western Thoroughbreds

I have a few more but they are my main breeds at the moment.
