NSS potential in foals

#253326 Posted on 2022-02-23 09:20:15

Hi

We have the genotype and also the foal stat calculators and I am just trying getting to grips with nss but that is a bit hit & miss unless breeding a foundie to a lined horse with a high nss quotient.  Is there some form of calculator for nss or a recipe that will give me an idea if they will make a good pairing for reducing the sum total.  The hardest bit is when they are a point within each other

eg
mare conf 58 nss 54
stally conf 58 nss 53
conf faults are just about evened out by the pairing

I know that the nss can change in the foal by 1-4 points.  Is there a random element to this like conformation?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated
Thanks

If the parents have offset stats (the mare and stallion have one or more paired stats that are even to odd or the other way around) they will drop NSS, and then there is also the random aspect to it! From what I understand, the lower you go, the less likely it is that the NSS will drop in this way, and I think you can only get a drop of 1 NSS in each stat category (not including offset pairing, like if I bred 10agi to 11agi, I would get 10agi and possibly 9agi if I’m lucky)

I breed horses with around 50-55 NSS and I’ve only gotten a drop of 3NSS once (I think, I’ll have to double check), even so I usually get at least 1NSS dropped, sometimes 2 if I’m lucky
Edit: Here is my highest drop in NSS https://www.equiverse.com/horse.php?id=1257228

Exactly what Saditome said.
But I'm giving an example:
Stallion has stats and NSS of:
STR: 17
SPD: 17
AGI: 375
INT: 547
END: 21
(total 55 NSS)

Mare has:
STR: 14
SPD: 17
AGI: 485
INT: 549
END: 19
(total 50 NSS)

The foal will have NSS of (if there is no random stat drop at all):
STR: (17+14)/2=15.5 -> so 15 because the system rounds down in cases of .5
SPD: (17+17)/2=17
END: (21+19)/2=20
Total 52 NSS. If you have luck, you can get 1-3 NSS drop, but the maximum NSS will be 52.

Haha - yeah, I just have an Excel sheet to calculate NSS, it's much more easier. :')
