Discipline query

I have just bought some young horses who were zero life & happiness  but have survived.  

My question is would it make any difference to delaying horses completion of training.  I converted one horse without thinking & he got only 1pt even though lined novice. 
 
I am not sure whether to take the hit on conversion to begin daily training or wait a few days to get their happiness quota up prior to converting.
