Story:
Adana was born into a herd in the cold, harsh northern regions, where the sun never shone, and the horses coats where shades of light gray, white, and cremello and perlino to blend into the snow that was a constant. The horses survived by eating mosses found under the snow, and tree branches and bark. They where going thin, and several died on the meager feed. At four years old she made a decision. She would go find a place where it was warm, and there was plentiful forage. The herd tried to stop her, as they said the sun and warm places where only a fable, she would simply waste her time and perhaps her life. But she was determined. And so she set off.

After several weeks of travel she came upon a blue jay, alighted in a tree. Adana questioned him of a sunny, warm place. Now the blue jay was a trickster that didn’t care for others, but when he saw her dull, lifeless white coat, her thinness, and the wistfulness in her gaze, his heart went out to the mare. “Follow me” he said, taking flight. They traveled on for several months, sometimes him flying in front, sometimes him riding on her back directing her. After long travels the air began to warm, and she glimpsed a single ray of light in the horizon. Her spirits rose, and she broke into a trot then an all out gallop towards it, the jay soaring above her. As she crested the hill after an hour of galloping she pulled up short in awe. There in the valley was plentiful grass and water. Beautiful flowers and trees grew. And most amazingly there was the Sun, shining tenderly on the land. Adana’s gaze fell again. The jay saw this and questioned about it. She explained that even if she went back for her herd, they would not believe her. Now unbeknownst to both, the Sun was listening, and his heart softened to the mare. He shone his rays on her, turning her coat the colour of him. “Now go back, for your herd will see the colour of you and know. The jay will guide you” he said. With a new spring in her step, she started back. The rays seemed to have given her strength, for she galloped tirelessly behind the blue jay, her coat glowing. When they saw her the herd was shocked. She’d been gone for a year, and they presumed her for dead, like the many others before her. They followed her to the place she’d found for them, and grew strong and happy, and thrived. The Sun was pleased with her work, and appointed her gatherer, with the jay as her guide and companion. So she spends her days bringing herds out of the cold, forbidding northern, with the jay by her side.

Hopefully you like it. :)

Oooh!!!! I love making backstories like this, lol.

I'll edit with a story, are you fine with mystical/magical/unreal/whatever stuff or would you like only realistic stories?

Adana was born from the sands of the Sahara. When the Wind formed the World, the first creature it created was Adana: the perfect being, a blend of beauty and grace, literally sand given form. She is invisible when it suits her, except for her eyes, through which it is said she can see even when there is no light. She can close her eyes to prevent anyone from seeing her, but has no other way of shutting off the light that shines from them. She can easily navigate even with her eyes closed, though, as long as the Wind blows, for it whispers to her. The light from her eyes can be seen for miles even in the deepest sandstorm, and she is said to guide lost souls back to safety.

Adana wanders the desert, appearing only when some human or animal needs her assistance, but she is unable to stay due to fear of being captured. She is immortal, but not invincible, and can still feel pain when it is intentionally inflicted upon her. Adana is revered as a guardian of the Sahara, or even as a goddess, among the desert's inhabitants. Many even have festivals dedicated to her. It is a tradition for the children of the villages to sneak out at night to catch a glimpse of her as the torches burn low and their parents begin to drift to sleep. It is rare for a child to get in trouble for doing this, as it is expected. Stories of glimpses the children catch fuel the next generation of believers (Adana does appear when she is in the mood, as she gains power from belief and wishes to keep it going).

Adana is saddened by her need to hide. With the Wind as her only company, she is quite lonely. She sees herds of horses gathered at oases, and other wild animals, but is afraid to approach them just as much as she fears the humans. She knows she is strange, and sees little hope that anyone could accept her. Her dream is to create her own herd of horses, as the Wind made her, but she does not know where to go to find the power to make that happen, and on this matter, the Wind does not speak. But out there somewhere, somewhere in the big wide world, there must be some way for her dream to be fulfilled.

(If you want to use her with other characters, I can come up with some way she was able to create her own herd, or find one, or obviously you can make your own. ^^ I hope you enjoy it!)

Any kind of story! It can be realistic or totally out there!

So far I like the two submissions!

     "She's...light. Pure, ethereal. Timeless and heavenly. She has no place here with us. She must leave." Crystal blue eyes peered from behind a mare's black tail, the foal's orbs scanning every inch of the stallion that stood inches in front of her. The only thing stopping that stallion from killing the palomino filly was her mother, who wedged her body between the two other horses.
     "She's only a foal. You can't take her from me," the mare looked the stallion in the eyes. "Adana is I have left, Osiris."
     "Look at her. An outcast. The rest of the herd will kill her before anything out there," Osiris said lowly, gesturing his head outside of the cave they stood in. "And she's a disgrace to our status. We adapted to blend in with the dark, there is no room for light, Farrah."
     The mare stiffened. She looked at her body. The stallion was right. Her pitch black coat and deep brown eyes stood out against the little filly that stood at her feet, vulnerable and weak. "I can't believe you would abandon your own daughter for status." The mare finally spat out, disgust evident in her voice.
     It was Osiris's turn to look down now. His eyes rested on Adana, a flash of an unrecognizable emotion passing through his expression. "It's a necessity. I don't want to do it, but she has the best chance of survival anywhere but here. Maybe she'll even make it to the City of Light. Please, don't make it harder than it has to be, Farrah," the stallion sighed sadly as he addressed his mate. Farrah's eyes started to glaze over with tears, which silently started to trickle down her face. She lowered her head, nuzzling her foal. The crystal eyes widened, understanding what was about to happen.
     "Come on, darling. We're going to take a trip. Just a little beyond the waterfall."

2 Years Later

     Adana's head rose toward the night sky, her eyes dancing from constellation to constellation. Everything her father said about her was true: pure, heavenly. Light. She had made it the City of Light, welcomed as a queen with horses on bowing knees. But she was lonely. She understood why her mother left her, all the pieces had made sense after Adana arrived within the reach of the Lights; and she had long since forgiven her mother. Adana couldn't find it in her heart to forgive her father after all the insults he launched at her and leaving her for dead. All for his status. But the feeling of despair still lingered deep inside of the mare. She let out a heavy sigh, as if she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. Adana strained her head more, peering up above to watch the twinkling stars. "Mother, I love you. I miss you. Please come back to me. You promised me you would," Adana muttered to herself in a melancholy tone, a sound so sad it defined the word 'suffering.' "I remember what you said." The palomino mare whispered, her gaze growing distant as she seemed to be recalling the memory.

     Farrah stood head to head with her young daughter, both of their breaths creating mist in the cold night air. The mare finally uttered out her last words. "Darkness and light will always dance together. You are my moon and stars, the light they give representative of you. You pierce my darkness with your light, and one day, you and I will be together again. I love you, my darling." The mother looked at her daughter one last time, not bothering to hide the tears staining her face. Farrah nodded her head, then took off in a gallop, leaving Adana standing alone at the base of the waterfall. The filly watched as her mother become a small spot in the distance, then turned herself around. She had no idea where she was going, but the dazzling lights in front of her seemed to calm her, reassure her, as she headed toward what would be the City of Light.

     Adana returned to the present moment, shaking her head just as her mother had done so long ago. She lowered her head, then turned her back to the sky. "Adana?" A voice called from behind her. The palomino mare's ears swiveled around as she heard the tone. Adana's body relaxed as she turned around, running to her mother and placing her neck around the older mare. Yet again, more tears found their way back to each mare's face. "My darling, I told you we would be united again," Farrah whispered. The stars seemed to twinkle even more as if they knew about the whole ordeal as both horses stood, the light and the darkness together again under the night sky.

(She's such a unique character and I loved the themes and ideas she gave me just by looking at her. Sorry it's a bit of a long story, I got carried away lol.)

I tried to make it as vague as possible so you could build around it, but also clear enough so you could get a definite feel for who she was and a bit into who she will become. :)

~~~
She was a winner. A fighter. Her breath clouded in front of her in the cold.
Adana was free.
And she would not be broken again.
The bit was offered to her, but she jerked away. According to technicalities she was familiar with this routine, and these upwalkers were surprised by her unwillingness. They were a bit rougher now, pulling it in, opening her mouth up, and she was forced to succumb. The cold, bitter taste hurt her very soul. But she did not truly protest until the heavy weight was placed upon her back. She reared, and whinnied her protests to the skies. They had lost the thing which had begun to constrain her face.
She charged, dancing away from their grasps. She ran to one side of the enclosure, and then the other, bunching her muscles to make the leap. She was free, and would stay free, unless she found that perfect someone again. And these folks were not that someone. But Adana knew who was, and where to find them.
The wind streamed past Adana, whipping at her sides, and she knew that she was winning. That she was in the right, and the upwalkers only saw the faintest flash of her pale mane as she disappeared into the woods.
Adana trotted among the trees, the girl riding on her letting her stray off the path a little. She was light on Adana's back, and the breeze blowing through her mane felt good, but she was discontent. It was humans who had taken her mother away from her, her sweet, loving mother. She didn't know what they'd done to her, but Adana was sure she was dead. This human family hadn't done it, but the slight weight on her back seemed to grow heavier and heavier.
Thinking of it, it was too much. She felt a sense of purpose, a sudden longing for freedom, and before she had time to think, she was rearing, letting out a sort of strangled cry. The girl slipped to the ground, the noise of her fall muffled by the dead leaves on the ground. Adana ran like she'd never run before, doing her best to ignore the girl's heartbroken voice. "Adana! Come back! Please..." She caught a glimpse of the girl as she ran. From the way she was lying, Adana could tell she was hurt. Something in her mind was instantly settled, and she changed directions, charging towards her owner's home. The girl's family caught sight of her, and ran after her, following her to the girl. But by the time they had glimpsed the girl, Adana was gone, so quickly they thought they hadn't seen her.
To this day Adana roams the forests, staying clear of humans, but if she sees someone hurt or lost, she'll appear, seemingly out of nowhere, leading someone to them, then disappearing before you can tell if you just imagined her. People think she's a ghost, and she sometimes seems to float more than run, or disappear before your eyes... So perhaps she is.
