Getting a Chameleon!

#176419 Posted on 2018-06-27 14:04:16

So, I went to the pet store today with my mom and we were looking at some of the exotic animals and we came across this chameleon and it was super awesome and we both fell in love with him. He was so sweet and loved to sit on your arm. So we decided we are going to get him, but the problem is we are leaving to Canada in a week and wouldn't have anyone to take care of him, so we have to wait until after the trip to get him. Hopefully someone won't have bought him by then. *Scared face* The kind of chameleon he is, is a Jackson's Chameleon. I will insert pics below so you can get an idea of what they look like. The best name idea we have right now is Lucifer because he has horns. Get it? XD If you would like, please post name suggestions. Lucifer, if you are reading this, no we did not name him after you lmao. I'm super excited!!!!

Unlike most chameleons, Jackson's Chameleons can only turn green and a dark brown color. Green means they are neutral/happy and dark means angry/stressed. You can see the dark color in the pic below.

That's awesome! Make sure to do research as to how to take good care of him before you purchase and have a good home ready, that way you can make him happy and healthy. c:

Yep! We actually had a female a couple years ago, but we had to sell her when we moved as our new house didn't allow any animals. He will be kept in a 55 gallon tank and we are going to make sure to spoil him XD He has actually been in the pet store for 3 months, so I'm sure he will be super happy to have a forever home.

Ooooo, I always loved their eyes hehe... I am trying to convince my mom to let me get a ball python but she is scared of snakes so I am trying to ease the idea into her lol because when I go to college for my first year (if I get in the college I want we need to stay on the 'dorms' for our first year of college) she would have to take care of it until I can move into an apartment that allows pets.

Haha we actually used to have a ball python named Bella she was such a sweet little thing, or should I say big thing XD They get pretty big. I love watching them eat although a lot of ball pythons are picky and only like live food which sucks because I hate watching the mouse or rat be eaten, but hey, she's gotta eat lol

Yea I heard they can be picky lol. I hoping mine will be fine with frozen, I looked up some tricks on how to get them to eat frozen if not well I guess I will have to deal with it lol! Luckly I currently don't own a rat like I did before otherwise I would be paranoid of it getting eaten. I plan to get a male so he stays kind of small and I plan to name him Monty after Monty Python XD Crossing my fingers!

I wanted a chameleon when I saw one because of it's eyes but I did my research first and I found out that they are kind of hard to take care of rather than a python (at least for me) lol!

Haha! Yeah by our research and past experience the Jackson's Chameleon is one of the easiest species to take care of. Although they still have lots of requirements and are not recommended for beginners or inexperienced pet owners. Also, if you need any person tips on your python feel free to message me! :3

Ooh awesome!! Exciting, hopefully you get him!! I would love a smaller python, boa, or corn or milk snake but my Mom is like basically drop dead terrified of em sadly, and refuses to let me get one, so I reckon I’ll have to wait til I’m moved out.

Thanks! I would probably recommend a corn snake if you are a starter and hold off on a python or boa. We used to have a corn snake named Cornelius. Generic I know XD pythons and boss get quite a bit bigger and eat more and require a bigger tank. They can Ben pretty pricey too. The good thing is that snakes don’t eat very often. We will have to feed Lucifer every day and he will need a variety of food. Crickets, greens, mealworms, etc.

My mom is also afraid of snakes. What is it with moms and snakes? As a compromise, she allowed me to have a leopard gecko. He is the sweetest little thing.
