Parent of a different breed?

#1750 Posted on 2016-02-14 18:29:34

So how does the game handle if a parent horse is changed to a different breed? I just noticed one of my GV has a parent that isn't assigned a breed yet.

Not sure yet. As this is only the second day of the recode, I don't think it's really come up yet. Which horse is it?

I changed one into a TWH and noticed after that she already had a foal before the recode... which was changed into a TB. The sire has been changed into a Vanner.

Seems a good example of what it'll look like. Nothing different except if you click on their dam/sire and notice it's not the same breed.

If you look at my foal - her parents are different breeds because she was a Belgian before coming in, and the people who owned her parents chose a TB & Clyde while I chose a Trakehner.

It doesn't affect much but she looks like she's been "crossbred".

I hope members don't look down on the ones that have parents with different breeds...

Given that, in the past, people frowned upon: uneven lines, horses who'd had more than x amount of foals, certain horses because they were "over bred"...

Unfortunately, yes, there's going to probably be people who frown upon it.

Well, thankfully, for the most part most of mine are from my own horses so many of them still have their parents and are the same breed. And/or their parents were already deceased before the recode.

Honestly, IMO, it's doubtful that a majority of breeders are going to find a fault with the lineage due to the recode. It's outside of your control and given that there was a large cull of breeds, it is something that should be expected and understood.

As mentioned, over breeding (in excess of 10-15 foals) per parent is typically going to be more of a negative than the mismatch of breeds.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. :)
