An Interesting (Terrible) Day!

#114696 Posted on 2017-07-17 21:05:01

It all started out with me waking up at three in the morning because I had so much anxiety about sleeping through all three alarms I had set. Then I woke up again at five, still stressing out. And then I started freaking out becuause I thought I had dropped my phone into the space between the wall and my bed and couldn't find it until the 6:25 alarm went off. So I had about six or seven hours of sleep. Keep in mind that I have to work from 7:30 to 4 and stay at the barn until seven because my sister has a lesson from 6-7.

The first round of day camp (a camp for the kids with no experiance what-so-ever and just spent a few hours grooming and "riding" and by riding I mean walking around and possibly trotting) was completely find except for one camper constantly kicking their horse and the horse finally snapping and kicking out. Let's just say a compacted piece of poop from his hoof flew past me and I was a couple horses away from him.

Second round of day camp was waaaayyyy too hot to go out for a trail and we did a riding lesson where we did weaving and I was a cone. Then we did some trotting and one of the kids was riding a particularly hot horse who dicided why trot when you can lope? So he took off loping and I grabbed his leather reins that slipped through my hands and I finally stopped him. Now I have a hole in my pointer finger and a blister like thing on my ring finger.

After that disaster, one of the boarders came down and was like "Um, guys, there's smoke" AND SHE POINTS BEHIND THE BARN, PAST THE VINEYARDS! And there's a small column of white smoke. We ignored it until one of the riders in the arena came up and pointed it out to us and said "There's a fire". We still kinda ignored it until the sheriff came up in his sheriff car and pretty much said no one could leave. Keep in mind that there is another set of camps going on on the property and all of the kids had to stay at the winery and the only people who could go up the road were the parents... who couldn't go back down. Then they said that no one could come up the road or go down so we were all stuck. Then all of the lessons were cancelled and we had to scramble to close the barn down so we could leave whenever we could.

I was texting one of my friends who was keeping an eye on the whole situation and at one point she said that the outer vineyards were on fire. I should probably mention that my barn is 120 acres with both horse stuff and a bunch of vineyards. And of course, I was texting my mom and keeping her updated. She asked if anything was smokey and it was weird because it was only 2.7 miles away and the only thing that would tell you there was a fire was the plume of white and brown-ish smoke. All of the horses were chilling out together and there were still birds hanging out so it never got too serious.

Then we found out that they were letting people down the hill, but still not up and I would either have to wait until they let people up or find someone who would give me a ride down. There were also helicopters and airplanes flying really low and I was so happy that the horses weren't freaking out because that would've been a disaster with fifty horses losing their minds.

Thankfully, I talked to one of the guys who rides and takes care of everyone's horses, found out he lives near me and he gave me a ride home.

I would freak out, but, to be quite honest, no offence...
