Marking Randomizer

#105543 Posted on 2017-05-20 15:26:09

Am I not understanding this correctly? I had received a Smoky Cream from the Equine Center which was great! I used a marking randomizer to try for something other than the roan marking it had. It ended up switching to white, ugh.

Am I mistaken, or should white not be considered a "marking" but instead only a color? This has happened to me several times and I am feeling like I'm just wasting credits since I have to use another 3 credits to correct the white. So after using another 3 credits I ended up with a chestnut roan. Total disappointment even though he's still cute lol! I wish now I had just left him alone.

Is there something I should be doing differently? :)

White is technically a marking and part of the KIT gene, and is not the base coat colour, but rather a kind of 'layer' (like other markings) that covers the underlying coat colour up. By using the marking randomizer you do run the risk of getting any of the white markings (W+, WT, WRn, WSb) as options, so it's a chance you end up taking. There's nothing you have done wrong - if you want to absolutely avoid getting the white marking in future, you may want to use the marking applicator instead. It costs more but will guarantee you get whatever marking you choose.
