Trying to breed a chestnut friesian

#105479 Posted on 2017-05-19 22:49:31

I found a few good studs for 2k and I started looking at their stats and realized, they all have the stats for jumping... and they're all related. My plan was to breed my best friesian mare to the best 2k stud and then go back and find a different 2k stud to breed with that foal (assuming it's a mare or I can find a good broodmare) and hopefully, I'd get a chestnut. Or I could breed all of my mares with one of the studs and breed all of the mares with different studs and get a few chestnuts. But NOPE! They're all related. Now I have to breed a mare, wait for the foal to be born and hope that it's a mare, breed it with one of my stallions and hope that out of that mix, I get a chestnut. But that's highly unlikely because all of my friesians are EE and with an Ee crossed with EE, you have a 25% chance of getting ee. But with a lovely Ee x ee, you get 50% chance of ee. I could either take my chances and breed the Ee with the EE or I could spend 40k and breed Ee and ee. Do you guys have any similar experiances? Perhaps something to give me hope like the most improbable foal is born?

I'm not sure if it's a typo, but if you breed EE to Ee, it's impossible to get ee. The foal will be either EE or Ee, with a 50% chance of each.

My advice is to try breeding to one of those outside stallions to get an Ee foal, then wait until it grows up and hope that by the time you come to breed it there will be some new studs on the market that your horses aren't related to.

This is why I have a C in bio. Yeah. You are correct. I see 20k being spent in my future.

I have some chestnuts friesians on My other account, I believe. Not sure what they're trained for or anything off the top of my head. But when I get home tonight I can look into them if you want. I'm willing to stud, brood, sell.

You can breed a chestnut without any chestnut horses involved at all - by breeding two black Friesians with Ee together - which offers cleaner lines, but only a 25% chance of getting an ee horse as a result. I have done it plenty of times before though, so you don't necessarily need to shell out for a chestnut breeding.

Morning Cat! was bred from two Ee horses and I got two chestnuts fillies + 1 black colt that is Ee. :)Very pleased with the three foals I got from the pair and I am planning on breeding more Chestnuts in the near future.
