Background Suggestions

#102998 Posted on 2017-04-30 19:04:49

So I purchased a horse tag base off Fintron ages ago and had a specific background idea for it. I pictured a wild mustang kinda feel, rocky rough plains terrain and started towards that goal... and got stuck over and over again then just left it alone for awhile.

Just opened it up again and I still hate what I have so far and despite trying several times to come up with a different background I can't get this idea out of my head, its just stuck whenever I work with this. So I've decided to post a WIP to see if anyone else has a background idea for it or any suggestions to fix the mess that I already have.

The only other possible idea I've had so far would be a dark cave with him coming out of the cave, kind of protecting his shelter. But I've never even attempted to do that its so far out of my comfort zone. Also pondered it with my water elemental stallion charging out of his lake towards the shore but I really stink at moving water.

So I'm very open to ideas/suggestions, would even consider commissioning a background for it that I can't accomplish myself and splitting re-colour profits, I love this base and am itching to use it.

Maybe make what you have sig and add a lion (or other animal) and in the distants behind the 'main horse', horses in the background like it is protecting a herd?

I think the distant background looks rather good, it's just the foreground being overtaken by that grass that feels awkward. It's such thick grass too that it kind of distracts you from the horse, so perhaps try toning it down, or restyle the grass, or go more minimal with some red earth and rocks and a couple tumbleweeds. I think you can use the concept without reworking it entirely.

I think this is a bit better, I moved up the middle... and reminded myself never to start in the middle without a better plan. I'm gonna add more rocks and grass but I think having the darker elements higher will balance the grass.

Just roughly moved it yet, still have to actually fill it in but this is an idea anyway.

That's looking better, plus it gives more depth to the image overall. c:
