Barn Drama

#102169 Posted on 2017-04-22 15:00:01

When I first joined the volunteer program at my barn, everything was great and everyone was nice to each other even if they didn't like each other. It's been over a year since I joined and now the program has transformed drastically. Rumors are being spread and there's a lot of drama. The woman running the program plays favorites, treats one girl in particular better than the rest of the volunteers, and hired one of her friends straight away even though the rest of the staff have been volunteers first. I might be getting hired over the summer as a trail guide which would be a great opportunity to get away from the drama and get paid for the work I do.

How do you guys deal with barn drama?

The best thing you can do for rumors and gossip is not to join in the conversation. A fire can't burn without wood. Also, does her 'favorite' act nicer, anything different from everyone else? And her friend; did she have experience around horses before?

I guess I'm kind of lucky. The barn that I work at is a private barn with only my boss' horses and a few of her friends. They're all a lot older and don't really gossip much. Though there has been a bit of frustration regarding one of the two year olds who keeps breaking fences and broke her stall down the other day. I will be starting to ride at a therapeutic barn next week though. I have a feeling I won't escape the barn drama for too long. The more people around, the more drama there tends to be. Like Luna said, the best you can do is try to ignore it and not feed into it. Unfortunately, that's always easier said than done.

The "favorite" is the one causing the most drama and she's only thirteen, turning fourteen and she's allowed to ride horses that are too much for her. The friend used to work at the barn, but she quit and then was hired.
