ISO: Artist to Commission to Create a Tutorial

#101166 Posted on 2017-04-15 10:34:34

Okay, so I have scoured the internet & DA trying to find a tutorial to teach me how to shade a horse properly in GIMP. I've found tutorials to shade humans, other animals & how to do cell shading. None of these are exactly what I'm looking for so I've decided to come to the helpful & talented artists here on EV.

Here's my idea - I'd actually like to commission someone to create an in depth horse shading tutorial. My ultimate goal (with the artist's permission, of course) is to have the tutorial added to the Tutorial Master List here on EV for everyone to use.

Here's what I'd like the tutorial to cover:

* How exactly to determine where to place the highlights/low lights on horse body
* Step by step detailed directions with images as examples
* Names of brushes, tools, etc used

Since I'm still sort of new to digital art (and I'm thinking anyone else who'll be using this tutorial will be new to digital art too) it would be great if it were worded so that new artists can understand & follow it easily. (Sort of Horse Shading For Dummies?)

If you're interested in giving this a go, please post either a link to or an example of your shading style below - horses only, please. If you could also let me know what you'd charge that would be great too! Thank you so much!

What exactly do you need in this tutorial? I mean, this should be only step-by-step horse shading or something with short descriptions about techniques used (shading in color or in grayscale), differences with drawing by mouse and graphic tablet?

I'm hoping for easy to do/learn general horse shading. Like if I wanted to create a charrie for myself or to sell how would I add the basic shading. Since I'm still sort of new I don't think I'm ready for the more technically challenging aspects. The one part I'd most like explained is how to determine where to put the shading. Oh, dear... I hope I'm explaining this clearly. Thank you!

I really hadn't considered a video. I was thinking more of something that could be left open & easily referenced as the person was working on their horse design.

To be truly honest... I don't watch videos at all on my laptop or PC so I don't know how easy it would be to keep one up & paused while I was working. Is it possible to leave a video paused for a while? Would it freeze or time out?

I may consider doing it but not as video - my laptop is not gonna manage recording screen and drawing at the same time.
Examples can be found here (charries) or here (deviantart); I'd make tutorial based on charries, 'cause my "regular" shading may cause some problems to beginners (first problem...I use no linearts).

My original though for this was for it not to be a video so that would be fine with me. Your shadind is lovely! Um... yes, you would probably have to dumb down your technique for me. lol!

I wouldn't name it "dumbing down" and I didn't mean that, if it sounded like that - sorry (English is not my native language, I'm still learning it).
I just wrote about that 'cause I know that lack of them causes problems and I wouldn't recommend not using them at the beginning.

If you'd like me to do that tutorial I probably won't finish it before end of the May.

Oh, you didn't make it sound that way! I used that phrase because of a series of books we have called "____ for Dummies". You did just fine!

There's no time limit for this. Please take your time. I'm patient & don't pressure people.

I'd be happy to pay you now for this if you'd like. Just let me know what I owe you. Thank you so much!

To be honest, I totally don't know how much would it be worth o.O
And I think it would be quite unfair if only you'd pay me for it while other people can use that tutorial. So I think that I don't need to be pay for that.

I'm so sorry, Radosny! My account was locked because we moved & were unpacking. I just saw this today.

I know creating the tutorial will be a lot of work and I would really like to do something for you. I understand it might be hard to put a price on though. Could I offer you something instead of EVD or EVC? We don't breed the same breeds so I couldn't offer you a breeding... Hmm... are there any credit items you'd like instead? Or could I purchase art on your behalf? Are there any horses you've had your eye on? If there's anything you might like please let me know.

I truly appreciate you even considering creating this tutorial. Thank you!

No problem - I also didn't log in for couple of days because of exams.
I hope you enjoy your new home! : )

I totally don't know what I may want o.O
I can think a bit about things I'd like to get and let you know, 'cause for now I can't remind anything special.

But, as I said - I'm totally fine with doing it for free : )

I hope your exams went well! We're mostly settled in so we are finally getting to enjoy our new place. Thank you!

Yes, please - think about things you might like or if you see something that catches your eye just let me know. I know you're willing to make the tutorial for free but I'd like to show my gratitude for your work.

It probably looks like I forgot about that but no, I didn't.
Just had a little bit mess in my life now all seems to be under control.

Tutorial should be finished within a week or two :).
